The Black’s Nook Avian Biodiversity Project is a citizen-science collaboration to survey birds at the ecologically restored wetland at Black’s Nook in Fresh Pond Reservation (FPR) in Cambridge. The City’s goal in accomplishing the landscape restoration was to improve the habitat quality, ecosystem function, and biodiversity. We know that birds are sensitive indicators of environmental health. The goal of our project, supported by the City, is to document the use of the space by birds and to report the results to the public, with the hope of informing public conversations about Black’s Nook and about urban ecology and conservation more widely.
The project launched March 2012. All sightings are available to the public through the Black's Nook page at the eBird database project of the Cornell Lab of Ornithology.
